TMJ Therapy

Tempero-mandibular joint disorder or better known as TMD or TMJ disorder is a spectrum of diseases that affects the hinge of the lower jaw and the base of the skull.  In this small area just in front of the inner ear canal are blood vessels, nerves, ligaments, muscles, cartilage, and bone.  When one or many of these structures become damaged or diseased, the entire area can cause tremendous discomfort and pain, dizziness, blurred vision, muscle pain, inability to open, painful clicking and headaches.  Often times, TMJ disorders are characterized by a clicking sound in the jaw joint, myofascial pain, headaches, shoulder and neck problems, ringing in the ears or tooth/teeth pain.  Motor vehicle accidents, whiplash injuries, blunt trauma to the head, posture and gait issues or clenching/grinding can initiate or worsen TMJ.  Our doctors have undergone in-depth post-University training to help diagnose the severity of your TMJ disorder and propose a variety of treatment options to help minimize and resolve your TMJ disorder.
